On Monday, 19 March, hundreds of Russians streamed into Moscow’s Young People’s Theatre to pay tribute to late Czech president Václav Havel. During the commemorative evening called ‘A Word about Václav Havel’ an exhibition was installed in the theatre titled ‘Theatre and Revolution’, prepared by the Arts and Theatre Institute in Prague. This slightly downscaled version of the exhibition presented a cross-section of the most important stages in Prague and Brno in which the events of November and December 1989 took place.

Jan 13, 2012 8:29 PM MoreOn Friday, 16 September, a gala opening was held at the town hall in France’s ‘puppetry metropolis’ Charleville-Mézières for the exhibition Marionnettes An Zero (Puppets since Year Zero), which was organised by the Arts and Theatre Institute as part of the biennial World Festival of Puppet Theatre (16. 9. - 25. 9. 2011). The festival, which this year is celebrating its 50th jubilee, on this occasion welcomed 132 theatre groups from 28 countries in its main programme, 120 groups in the accompanying programme taking place on the streets, and 14 exhibitions drawing attention to the history of puppet theatre in the host region of the Ardennes and in other centres of puppet art, one of which is without a doubt the Czech Republic.

Miroslav Melena is without doubts one of the most significant contemporary Czech sceongraphers and theatre architects. The exhibition introduces both his scenography and architectural work.
