The ATI continues to support contemporary Czech drama and playwrights in 2013

As part of its work to promote Czech theatre abroad the Arts and Theatre Institute (ATI) is co-organising a showcase of contemporary Czech theatre and playwrights in Budapest titled Csekkold!. In addition, this year the joint presentation strategy for Visegrad countries the PACE.V4 project and the Generational Icons in Central Europe project will continue.

‘Fund Your Artistic Move’ Discussion Forum: Cultural Mobility and Strategies in Support of the Arts in Europe and Asia

The Arts and Theatre Institute (ATI) is organising on 5 and 6 June 2013 in Prague a meeting of representatives from Asian and European institutions and organisations that support artistic and cultural mobility. The part of the programme open to the public will take place on 6 June starting at 3 pm in the foyer of the New Stage of the National Theatre, where the results of this unique meeting will be presented and anyone in the Czech Republic interested in international cooperation in the arts will have an opportunity to speak directly with representatives of key European and Asian organisations that support international cooperation.

Alena Hanáková, the Minister of Culture, has decided to support preparation and realization of events connected with music anniversaries in 2014. The Arts and Theatre Institute has been in charge of the preparations of the Year of Czech Music 2014 for three years and it also administers the website (www.rokceskehudby.cz).

The Largest Exhibition of Czech Puppets Has Opened in the United States

Following the recent successful showcase of Czech arts at the APAP performing arts fair in New York, Czech art is again in the American spotlight. The gala opening of the largest exhibition of Czech puppets took place in the United States on Friday, 8 March 2013. Titled 'Strings Attached: The Living Tradition of Czech Puppetry' and prepared by the Arts and Theatre Institute (ATI) in cooperation with the Columbus Museum of Art, the exhibition outlines the history of Czech puppetry theatre from the end of the 19th century to the present day.

The 13th Showcase for the World Day of Theatre for Children and Young People

The Arts and Theatre Institute, Czech Centre of ASSITEJ, Sdružení Divadlo pro děti a mládež (Association for Theatre for Children and Young People) and Sdružení pro tvořivou dramatiku (Association for Creative Drama) are the main organizers of the 13th Showcase for the World Day of Theatre for Children and Young People. The event takes place on 17. – 22. March and is supported by the capital city of Prague. This year’s showcase focuses both on Czech children spectators as well as on the international expert public.

Four Wins for Dejvické Theatre in the Alfréd Radok Awards

The name of Dejvické Theatre in Prague rang out four times at the recent Alfréd Radok Awards. It was named Theatre of the Year. Best Production was the staging of A Blockage in the System by Irvine Welsh and Daniel Majling directed by Michal Vajdička, and the Best Actor Award went to Ivan Trojan. The theatre was also successful in the category of Czech Play, in which director and artistic head Miroslav Krobot won for the production of his play Brian. Artists from Dejvické Theatre were also successful at the recent Czech Lion film awards, where, among others, Trojan won the award for best actor in a leading role.

A taste of Czech art at the APAP fair in New York

For the third time the Czech Republic part in the APAP (Association of the Performing Arts Presenters) world fair of the performing arts which took place on 11-15 January 2013 in New York. A new feature was the showcasing of five Czech companies, which as well as the Czech Republic’s participation as a whole was coordinated by the Czech Center and the Arts and Theatre Institute.
