Generation Icons in Central Europe in the electronic version is available for foreign professionals

Generation Icons in Central Europe is a recently published book inspired by the project for the support of contemporary drama and staging focused on generation icons. The project was initiated by three Central European theatres in 2011-2013. The main organizer of the project was the LETÍ Theatre in Prague and the co-organizers included GUnaGU Theatre in Bratislava, Wiener Worstaetten in Vienna, Arts and Theatre Institute in Prague and the HaDivadlo theatre in Brno.

Czech scenic arts in New York

The Arts and Theatre Institute and Czech Centres, the main coordinators of the project, prepared Czech participation in the biggest scenic arts market APAP in New York. The Arts and Theatre Institute managed to perform a more intensive presentation of contemporary Czech drama at the Central Europe Young and Restless: A Symposium on the Youngest Generation of Central-European Theatre-Makers.

The ATI is publishing a series of guides to Czech arts

As part of its mission to promote Czech arts abroad, the Arts and Theatre Institute (ATI) is publishing a series of guides to Czech dance, music, literature and theatre. They are being prepared by the Department of International Cooperation and PR and the Music, Dance and Literature departments. All four publications will be published in English and they are intended for people abroad with an interest in Czech arts, organisers of festivals and other cultural events, and can also serve as a practical guide for the wider public.

The very first Theatre Night 2013 takes place this Saturday!

On Saturday, 16 November, ‘Theatre Night 2013’ will be held for the first time in the Czech Republic. Eleven countries are taking part in this European project which has been organised since 2008. More than 80 ensembles in 24 towns in the Czech Republic have prepared various theatre activities for visitors. ‘Theatre Night 2013 is intended as a combination of tried and true recipes and original experiments, but is above all an opportunity for theatres and cultural institutions to present themselves in a playful, friendly, and welcoming form’, says Martina Černá from the Arts and Theatre Institute (ATI), which is coordinating the event.

Czech scenography is still in great condition

Thanks to people like Josef Svoboda, František Tröster, Jaroslav Malina or Miroslav Melena, Czech scenography has been a world phenomenon for a number of decades. In September, scenographer Simona Rybáková received the prestigious award for costumes at the World Stage Design. The presentation at this event was initiated by the Czech Organisation of Scenographers, Theatre Architects and Technicians and the Arts and Theatre Institute. They also organize the national Salon of Czech Scenography, which takes place at the turn of November and December 2013 in Brno and in April 2014 in Prague.

The ATI opens the Emperor Route of historic theatres in the Czech Republic and Austria

The Emperor Route of historic theatres in the Czech Republic and Austria is the fifth of eleven routes that in 2016 will make up the European Route of Historic Theatres. Perspectiv – the Association of Historic Theatres in Europe launched a project of the same name in 2012 with the support of the EU’s Culture programme, and by 2017 the project will prepare a series of tourist routes, a travelling exhibition and an online database of historic theatres.

The Czech Centre in London and Nová síť initiated and prepared the Czech Dance Showcase in Great Britain, which is going to take place in August at one of the biggest theatre festivals in the world – Edinburgh Festival Fringe with presentation of contemporary Czech theatre organized by the Arts and Theatre Institute. The Czech Republic is represented by Spitfire Company & Damúza, Tantehorse and VerTeDance.

This symposium takes place on October 31 - November 1 and is part of the beginning phase of the Prague Quadrennial’s long-term exploration within the SharedSpace Music Weather Politics 2013 / 2016 project.
