The Arts and Theatre Institute supported the presentation of three Czech companies at the APAP performing arts market in New York

The performing arts market APAP with the tradition of 50 years took place immediately after the New Year’s Day from January 7 to January 12. The market also included the conference and the accompanying art showcase. The Czech Republic has participated in the event since 2010, when the ATI Czech national booth was presented together with the Czech Centre New York. The showcase of Czech theatre, dance and music takes place every year since 2011 in the Bohemian National Hall thanks to the long-term special support of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.

The Arts and Theatre Institute is going to continue in the presentation of Czech scenic arts at outstanding foreign fairs in 2015

The Arts and Theatre Institute is going to represent Czech theatre, dance and music at several foreign fairs focused on scenic arts, promotion of Czech theatre abroad, the establishment of new partnerships or the enhancement of contacts with foreign countries. Just as last year, the ATI is going to send Czech representatives to New York, Yokohama in Japan and Seoul in South Korea. Presentation of Czech scenic art at performing art fairs is a feature of the promotion of Czech theatre and scenic arts abroad, which has been in progress since 2010. The selection of participating artists, companies, productions and organisations is based on consultation with the Dramaturgic Board members.

The exhibition “The Tradition and the Present of Czech Puppets” presents the cultural phenomenon acknowledged worldwide

The Arts and Theatre Institute, the Czech Centre in Sofia and the Puppet Fair Sofia opened the exhibition “The Tradition and the Present of Czech Puppets” on Friday, September 19, 2014. The exhibition is a part of the 8th international Puppet Fair and presents more than 50 exhibits, photographs and scenic designs. The Czech Republic is also represented by Georges Méliès’s Last Trick staged by the Drak Theatre from Hradec Králové, and a workshop for children and teenagers.

Czech Theatre Night Is One of the Three Largest Events in European Theatre Night

Theatre Night took place in the Czech Republic for the first time in 2013. Over 80 amateur and profession theatres and ensembles in 25 towns and cities across Bohemia and Moravia took part. The theatres prepared samples of performances and concerts for visitors as well as tours behind the scenes and various workshops. The scale of the event in the Czech Republic and the number of visitors it had ranked Czech Theatre Night alongside Croatia and Slovakia as the biggest events in the entire European Theatre Night project.

Czech Dance at Tanzmesse in Düsseldorf

The German city of Düsseldorf is being transformed into a city of dance again after two years. Dancers, artists, dramaturges, curators, producers and critics from all over the world are convening in the city to present their current projects at the biggest fair in the field of dance. Czech-Slovak dance will also be there, both performing work, and with a presentation booth.

Karel Kraus (1920-2014), theatre dramaturge and translator, died after a short illness on Sunday, March 15. Czech culture lost a personality of a European calibre, who was one of the last people, who shaped Czech theatre after WWII.
